INFORMATION

1958 was a transitional year for Danelectro and the last year in which guitars were designed with one cutaway. The entire series was updated and the Shorthorn Standard guitar with the new double cutaway made its debut. The retail price was $75 for the single-coil pickup model and $100 for the double-coil pickup model. The new Shorthorn models were, unlike the old single cutaway models which were available in a wide variety of colors, only available in two basic colors: black and bronze. The double-coil pickup models had, unlike the single coil element, stacked concentric control knobs.

Pink Floyd guitarist Syd Barrett is featured in early publicity photos with his black Shorthorn Standard. Jimi Hendrix owned a 1958 Danelectro Shorthorn which he nicknamed Betty Jean.
