INFORMATION

D’Angelico initially designed two guitars modeled after Gibson’s revolutionary L-5 archtop model: the Style A-budget model and the graceful Style B. In 1936, these designs were followed by the Excel and New Yorker models which featured the art deco tailpiece, the matching raised pickguard and tuner heads.
The Excel was particularly popular among jazz musicians, it was also played by none other than Chet Atkins, before it was sponsored by Gretsch from 1954.
