INFORMATION
In 1938 Gibson launched the ‘Super Jumbo-series, the showpiece to which the J-200 also belonged. It was the largest instrument Gibson had ever produced. The Super Jumbo’s most visually distinctive feature was its mustache-shaped bridge cut from ebony.
For this guitar the huge amount of $200 had to be deposited and for an extra $50 the fretboard was inlaid with your name. A year after its introduction, it was renamed the SJ-200. There was hardly any market for these Super Jumbos as the US economy was in a precarious state just before the start of World War II. Few copies were therefore produced. As a result, models from this period are rare and real collectibles.
