This special specimen is one of three types of instruments with simultaneously vibrating pins in the body that Bohmann made at the age of sixty, when he was still at the top of his skills as a guitar mandolin and violin maker in Chicago. He had previously developed the double neck guitar and patented several variations on this type of instrument, including the vibrating pins and a arched top and back with a sloping shoulder for easier access to the higher frets.
