Maccaferri Islander – France – 1957

TYPE

Acoustic Hollow Body Steel-string guitar

FEATURES

Plastic body and neck

Plastic fretboard with copper frets

Aluminum tuners

INFORMATION

The Islander guitar was made by injecting plastic into a mold. The injection port was then covered with a tailpiece. The neck is attached to the body by means of a dovetail joint.

The instrument also features aluminum tuners mounted on the headstock.
These guitars are small and about the size of a parlor guitar. Despite the plastic neck and fingerboard, they are meant to be serious instruments.
